Sean's Bar Athlone
Sean’s bar is officially Ireland’s oldest pub, dated by the National Museum and certified by the Guinness Book of World Records with a documented history dating back to 900 AD. Luain was the very first Inn Keeper at Sean’s bar and he located an Inn at the very important strategic crossing point at Athlone where he guided people across the treacherous waters of the Shannon. Today the town of Athlone takes its name from Luain himself, in Irish Baile Atha Luain meaning the Ford of Luain or the town of Luain.
Sean’s bar is listed in both “The Top 25 Bars in the World” and “The Top 50 bars to Blow your Mind” by Lonely Planet so a visit to Ireland’s oldest pub is a must. The pub is famous for its old world charm, open turf fireplace, saw dust covered floors and live traditional music seven nights a week. Sean’s is a popular local watering hole but also plays host to visitors from all over the world who come to view the old walls made of wattle and wicker which are on display in the pub along with the official certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records.
WHISKEY TRAIL TREAT
Enjoy a Sean's Bar Irish Whiskey with a complimentary dark chocolate truffle infused with Sean's specially blended whiskey.
This limited edition whiskey is a blend of grain and malt with delicate notes of caramel, making it soft and a little sweet. A very approachable whiskey, it perfectly compliments this scrumptious bean to bar dark chocolate truffle.
